E-mail from a Psychology PhD student

As some of you may know, I'm spending this weekend blindfolded

as part of my research.

Firstly, it's been suggested that I use my blindfolding to raise money

for a charity. I've chosen the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and

would love it if you could find a few spare pennies to contribute.

Donating is easiest through my JustGiving site:

I'm also trying to arrange for human "guide dogs" to supervise my

adventures over the weekend. I'm trying to maintain my usual routine

where possible, so having helpers is going to be essential. If you can

spare an hour on Monday or Friday I'd be very much obliged. (My other

half has nobly volunteered for Saturday and Sunday.) Let me know and

I'll put you on the sheet.

And I get paid to be here -- happiness.

Make do & eat

I found it immensely satisfying eating the entire contents of fridge and freezer during the Big Snow of 2010. This has spurred me on to the cupboards. This week my challenge is a bag of semolina. Luckily the boy seems to like it as a pudding. Tonight we are trying Roman Gnocchi which according to Delia is made with said ingredient. I love a recipe that concludes with, "You might think this seems too much butter, but when serving it should be soaked in melted butter. Not for slimmers or the health-conscious, but wonderful."

Breakfast on the Go!

As a result of previous post, foxy is having his b'fast on the train, and managing to flirt at the same time.

Reincarnation of Uncle Daniel?

Foxy has been really into sleeping lately. More than 13 hours then a two hour nap. Trying to wake gently with light and household noise. Not working. I can see what the teenage years have in store.

Genius

How could I have forgotten about this gem? Last year, it was a bathtub. This year, the surfboard.

Snow Pics!

It's getting old (for me, not N & D), but it is very pretty indeed. There is not only more snow than I have seen in the past 15 years, but the temps are staying low, so it's not budging. Best to appreciate the beauty:

The Good Life

Have made muffins from mix by SiL, awesome. Watching snow falling like in one of those globes, awesome. All went quiet in living room, foxy just fell asleep in the middle of playing, awesome. Knitting toe-up socks out of Noro, awesome.

More White Stuff

There's no denying it is beautiful. Foxy and I set for a day of snowy delights :-).

Toe-Up Socks

So I should be writing about New Years Resolutions, but if you're really interested, look back at last years list.

Actually one of my resolutions last year was to make handmade gifts. NEVER again. I knitted gifts for eight people, and it just wasn't worth it. Four months of toil, and for the most part I think bought gifts would have been appreciated just as much.

This year: making stuff for me! My first two projects are a pair of toe up socks with a magical invisible cast-on:

And I've cast on my first lace shawl. All 299 stitches. All for me :-)
